Dambulla Cave Temple

In Dambulla in north-central Sri Lanka is the Buddhist Cave Temple, used since the 3rd century BC to this day. Behind collonades built in the 1930s, there are five caves, large and small, whose walls and ceilings are covered in colorful frescos depicting Buddha and his life. In addition, there are 157 statues of Buddha, sitting, standing and lying on his side, plus a few deities and stupas.
