Udawalawa National park is in the plains of southern Sri Lanka. It surrounds an artificial lake and is covered mostly in tall brush with occasional solitary trees, creeks and ponds. There are many birds, reptiles, buffalo, deer, and a large population of Sri Lankan elephants, a small,distinct, mostly tusk-less subspecies of the Asian elephant.
