Taos Mountain

Taos Mountain is part of the Sangre de Christo range of the southern Rocky Mountains (USA) and dominates Taos valley with its distinctive shape and rounded, bald peak at just about the local tree line.
The Taos Indian reservation encloses Taos Mountain. It is sacred to the local Indians, the Mother Mountain. Indeed, the mountain and its watershed make habitation of this harsh high altitude area of northern New Mexico possible at all.
From 1999 to 2014, I have had the privilege to live and work face to face with this mountain, literally facing it through a large window behind my computer screen where I worked every day.
Sometimes it was difficult to concentrate, for the mountain changes its looks continuously through the days and nights and seasons in a show of light, shadows and colors that so often is almost achingly beautiful. In awe by its function and the many faces it presents, it has become my Sacred Mountain, too.
